Clara Barton was one of the bravest women in our history. Clara Barton went straight to the battlefields of wars and witnessed chaos and destruction but still stood her ground. When the men around her were shot by enemy bullets, Clara Barton stayed and nursed the injured back to health.
After the Civil War, Clara Barton continued her leadership and founded the American Red Cross. Clara Barton became the American Red Cross's first president and stayed in office for 23 years. During the natural disasters, Clara Barton led the relief efforts and helped rebuild towns and cities. Clara Barton did so much that she was made president for life but resigned two years later. Clara Barton's leadership changed the way the Army ran its medical efforts. A new ambulance corps had been created and it worked more efficiently and was able to save more lives. Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross to improve the health of citizens and save the lives of war and disaster victims.
